How to Configure Chinese Language Ability

Control Panel Regional and Language Options

Pick “Languages tab”

Select “Install files for East Asian Languages (click OKAY in the pop-up regarding memory requirements)

Click “Apply”



You will be prompted to insert your Windows XP CD. Click Okay and browse to the i386 folder @ C:

Choose the XJIS.NL_ file and select “Open”. Then click Okay. The East Asian Languages will now install.


A reboot will be required. (To return to this page we recommend bookmarking it)

Get back to the Regional and Language Options Settings in the Control Panel. Again, go to the Languages tab.


Click the “Details” button.


In the next window, select the “Add” button.


You will now be prompted to select an Input Language and Keyboard Layout/IME.

Select Chinese (PRC) as the input Language.

Select Chinese (Simplified) – Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0

Once you click Okay, Chinese (PRC0 and a Chinese Keyboard will appear in the Installed Services area.

Next, select the Language Bar button at the bottom of this window.



Select the following items:

-Show the Language bar on the desktop

-Show the Language bar as transparent when inactive

-Show additional Language bar icons in the Notification area

-Show text labels on the Language bar


Click Okay here and in the following pop-up regarding advanced test services.

Next, go to the Start MenuàProgramsàMicrosoft Office ToolsàLanguage Settings.

Select Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional languages in the list on the left.

After all of these steps have been completed, the Language bar should appear in the Task bar.



Unlock the task bar. Move your mouse over the divider space to the left of the Language bar until you get the “Move’ symbol.
Move the Language bar to the desktop. Top center appears to be the best location.

In the Language bar, click the “select button” on the far right side to expand the options for the bar and selectable user settings.



Check/select the “Charset” option to enable toggling between Simplified and Traditional characters.
Check/select the “IME Pad” to enable the dictionary and its options as well.

Proceed to the “Settings” button. In the pop-up window, highlight the Chinese keyboard layout and go to “Properties”.



In the next pop-up window, go to the “Candidate Option” area and check/select “Prompt Step by Step”. Apply and or Save as needed.


When the pop-up window closes, go to the “Advanced” tab of the settings window which should still be open. Check/select to “Extend support of advanced text services to all programs” in order to enable the Chinese language ability to other programs such as Word pad and Notepad.

Reboot the machine and copy the Imaging profile to the Default user.
